Sr. Software Engineer, ASE Media ProcessingSeattle, Washington, United States - Software and ServicesDescriptionAs an Engineer on the ASE Media Processing team, you'll work on the foundation supporting all of Apple's media use-cases. This role focuses on developing robust, highly available applications for orchestration and control of live and video-on-demand encoding. We manage the entire media lifecycle, from creation to international scheduling and custom media formats. You will collaborate with multiple engineering teams, business operations, technical operations, third-party vendors, and the open-source community to develop next-generation systems and infrastructure for processing vast amounts of media daily. We value reusability, reliability, refactoring, higher-level abstractions, and frameworks that benefit multiple teams. Your passion for processing video and audio will drive product improvements. Strong communication skills are essential to articulate designs, conduct code reviews, provide and receive feedback, and coordinate across geographically diverse teams. • Expertise in software design using Java and/or JVM-based languages.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Deep understanding of highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Experience with Docker and containerization technologies.
• Experience deploying software on elastic platforms like Kubernetes, EC2, etc.
• Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, Redis, Postgres, and CockroachDB, including writing tests and documentation.
• Experience with automation to enhance productivity throughout the software lifecycle in fast-paced environments.Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of video/audio codecs and media containers.
  • Experience with live video processing and streaming protocols like SRT, RIST, and RTMP.
  • Familiarity with HLS protocol.
  • Knowledge of Apache Ozone and Hadoop.
  • Experience with application monitoring using OpenTelemetry.
  • Practical experience applying GenAI to improve productivity.At Apple, compensation includes base pay within a range ($166,600 - $296,300), dependent on skills, experience, and location.
