instruction to visually impaired students in order to assist them
with achieving their educational, social, and vocational

Visually Impaired typically do the following:
- Develop learning adaptations appropriate for a child who has a
visual impairment.
- Completes an educational based assessment and consultation of
students for the purpose of assisting in the development of goals
and reports to appropriate special education personnel when goals
appear to be inappropriate. Additionally, with parental consent,
evaluate as indicated by the IEP team for educational programming
needs pertaining to recommendations for educational programming,
access and accommodations
- Conducts developmental and functional vision assessment using
observation, parent interview, and formal assessment strategies.

- Provides social/emotional support for families as
appropriate.
- Provides timely, responsive, and consistent services to
children, families, and teams.
- Encourages students to participate in school activities outside
the classroom and in every possible way encourages them to relate
effectively to other students. -
- Participates in in-service training and program development
activities related to special education and professional learning
for the visually impaired. -
- Completes an educational based assessment and consultation of
students for the purpose of assisting in the development of goals
and reports to appropriate special education personnel when goals
appear to be inappropriate. Additionally, with parental consent,
evaluate as indicated by the IEP team for educational programming
needs pertaining to recommendations for educational programming,
access and accommodations. -
- Maintains adequate and careful records as required by the
principal, district level administrator, and superintendent. -
- Cooperates with and participates in the planning and evaluation
of the school program. -
- Provides for the care of school property and appropriate use of
supplies, equipment, and utilities. -
- -Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students
- Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each
student
- -Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to
each students abilities
- Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and
one-on-one -Implement IEPs, assess students' performance, and track
their progress
- Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students'
progress and goals -Discuss students' progress with parents,
teachers, counselors, and administrators
- Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students
with disabilities
- Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and
after graduation Qualifications:
- Must hold a current license to practice in the state of
Washington
- Ability to use varied educational/development assessment
instruments including but not limited to: Woodcock-Johnson Reading,
Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Education Battery. -
- Have successful experience working with culturally diverse
families
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and
professional development
