POSITION SUMMARY: The mission of Puyallup Tribe's Juvenile Justice
System is to strengthen families and communities by empowering
youth to resolve conflicts and overcome obstacles in order to
become successful students and contributing adults. Juvenile
Healing Wellness Court (JHWC) is a restorative justice strategy
funded by OJJDP (Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency and
Prevention) intended to redirect youth into pathways of Puyallup
culture and history while supporting youth in "pro-social"
productive settings. Puyallup Tribe's "Youth Services Division"
operates a variety of innovative programs proven to increase
student performance; reduce school dropout rates, gang involvement,
youth violence and crime and ultimately help preserve families.
Networking between strategies is essential for Puyallup Tribal
youth to be successful and productive members of the tribe and
community. The Case Managers role will be to appropriately manage
assigned youth to obtain required support and assistance that are
referred to the Juvenile Justice System and the JHWC. Continued
case support and monitors of youth would also be a requirement in
this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under the direction and supervision of the Program Supervisor,
the Case Manager I will be responsible for managing the Counseling
and Resource Services program referrals and helping manage intake
coordination.
2. Providing resource navigation and linkages to referred youth and
their families.
3. Assisting in program referral/enrollment for clients.
4. Consistent and regular contact with families and providers to
monitor progress.
5. Providing comprehensive strengths-based intake to referred youth
who are either involved or at risk of being involved in the
juvenile justice system.
6. Triaging referred youth to the appropriate internal Puyallup
Tribal program.
Case Manager Specific Duties:
7. Refer participants to service providers for social and
developmental services such as victim/offender and family
mediation, mental health treatment and/or counseling, education
rights assistance, academic assistance, housing assistance, life
skills, mentorship, cultural/ceremonial, educational, and
vocational/job training.
8. Maintain accurate case files; collect and report data as needed
for reports and evaluation.
9. Call referred clients to determine eligibility for program and
willingness to enroll.
10. Maintain regular contact with providers and clients to monitor
progress.
11. Assist with the development of effective assessment and case
management procedures and systems.
12. Make home and school visitations as needed.
13. Provide timely follow up with regard to referrals via email,
phone, etc. to build rapport and identify appropriate services
needed.
14. Review incoming referrals, determine eligibility, and triage
referrals to the appropriate Puyallup Tribal program.
15. Conduct pre-screening assessments with youth and families to
determine appropriate service placement.
16. Work closely with Puyallup Tribe's Wrap Around Program and
referring agencies regarding referral processes, enrollment
outcomes and service needs of referred youth. Referring agencies
include police departments, schools, probation department and
courts.
17. Process referrals accurately and efficiently within established
productivity guidelines and time frames.
18. Maintain accurate case files; collect and report data as needed
for reports and evaluation.
19. Act as a preceptor to assigned office interns.
20. Participate in staff training and partner meetings.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as a preceptor to assigned office interns, and manage assigned
youth.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience
--- Requires a Bachelor's Degree in social work and/or psychology
AND one year of case management experience in social work and/or
juvenile justice or a closely related field or the equivalent
combination of education/experience. Familiarity with the Wrap
Around Case management approach preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business
periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or
governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively
present information and respond to questions from groups of
managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts,
interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area,
circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic
algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of
concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization
exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in
written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State
driver's license and proof of insurance. The Driver's License must
not contain any restrictions that would otherwise prevent an
employee from complying with the Tribe's Vehicle Use Policy or
operating a GSA vehicle.
