We reserve the right to make a hiring decision at any time.***-- The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill a one year, full-time internship in the position of Psychology--Affiliate (Staff Psychologist Intern).--This position is with the Staff Psychology Program within the Office of the Deputy Secretary located at the SW Regional Office in Lacey, WA. Approximate start date for this paid internship will begin in August 2020. This position m eets the internship requirements for Washington state licensure . In support of the agency's mission, "To improve public safety," and the supporting process of "developing the workforce," this position applies evidence-based psychological principles and research methods to help the agency hire the most suitable candidates, mitigate work-related stressors, and develop effective leaders.--The Staff Psychologist Intern, under the direction of the Staff Psychologist Program Manager, works with management to advise and consult on changes or alterations in the work environment to improve productivity and job satisfaction necessary to a successful organization. Incumbents in this position are highly trained and skilled with respect to: Employee psychological testing and interpretation. Employee selection based on personality, suitability, and psychological stability. Crisis intervention. Peer support. Promoting staff well-being. Short-term consultation. Conflict resolution. Stress management. Educational presentations (communication skills, stress management, etc.). Providing referrals and resources. Collaborating and advising with appointing authorities. The incumbent also promotes and champions the well-being of DOC employees agency-wide as an individual and through the Staff Psychologist Program and the Resilience--Support--Team. Critical services provided by these two programs include Correctional Officer (CO) pre-employment psychological assessments, CIS crisis intervention and training, and confidential individual (one-on-one) consultations with DOC employees at all levels of the organization. This position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Duties Key responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to : Complete Psychological Evaluations for pre-employment (hire) of Correctional Officer (CO) candidates, under the direction of a Staff Psychologist: Conduct structured biopsychosocial interview. Interpret standardized psychological test results. Under supervisory consultation, decide whether a candidate is psychologically suitable for purposes of employment as a CO or CCO. Write a comprehensive psychological suitability and stability report for review by the hiring authority. Compile and analyze ongoing and long-term interpersonal, behavioral, and psychological data pertaining to DOC facility and community officers to contribute to developing statewide and national best practices. Research and Literature Reviews, including: 10 hours of allotted time per week for literature reviews, proctoring psychological exams, curriculum and training development and assisting Staff Psychologists in ongoing departmental research projects. Under the direction of a Staff Psychologist, provide oversight and clinical direction for the local DOC Interdisciplinary Resilience Support Team (RST), including: Attending monthly RST meetings. Attend deployments both on and off prison grounds. Conduct and/or participate in various forms of RST interventions such as debriefs, one on one consultations, etc. Facilitate communication between team members, team leaders, and staff psychologists. Didactic Trainings, including: Attend six (6) hours of didactic training on a weekly basis covering pre-employment psychological evaluations, staff psychologist services and RST. Under the direction of a Staff Psychologist, provide confidential and culturally competent short-term clinical services and supervisory and career coaching to individual DOC employees, including: Staff cases on an as needed basis with clinical supervisor and/or staff psychologist. Provide consultation and assist staff in addressing personal and/or work issues that impact being the most effective and satisfied at work. Provide community and online mental health resources and referrals as needed. Conduct regular outreach visits for staff at all DOC prison facilities and offices in the geographic area of responsibility. Provide staff crisis intervention for severe mental health/situational needs. Direct Supervision, including: Two hours of direct supervision per week to ensure that the intern is meeting their professional development goals and to provide regular feedback about their assigned duties. Qualifications Required Qualifications Enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a doctorate program from a regionally accredited institution and a doctoral program that is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) or meets the requirements of WAC 246-924-046 . Familiarity and demonstrated ability to maintain ethical standards as set forth in applicable federal and state laws and statutes, including: Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Washington RCW 18.130.180 (Unprofessional Conduct) RCW 26.44 (Abuse of Children) RCW 70.02 (Medical Records) RCW 71.05 (Mental Illness) RCW 74.34 (Abuse of Vulnerable Adults) RCW (see application details) through 363 (Rules of Ethical Conduct, etc.) Preferred/Desired Qualifications Six months experience or more in:-- pre-employment psychological assessments industrial and organizational psychology a correctional setting Supplemental Information The mission of DOC is to improve public safety by positively changing lives.
