Job Description Job Description ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
Provides comprehensive health care to all patients of the Lower
Elwha Health Clinic The MD shall provide medical services during
established weekday work hours with the exception of Federal
Holidays. He may also be required to provide acute medical
treatment at other times including evaluating patients in the
hospital and nursing homes on weekdays and weekends. The MD shall
represent the Tribe's interests and maintain good relationships
with patients of the clinic, the Tribe, and with the community at
large. The MD shall devote his entire time, skill and energy to the
practice of medicine on behalf of the Tribe. The MD shall not
engage in the practice of medicine as an employee or independent
contractor except as an employee of the Tribe or with express
written agreement of the Tribe through the Health and Human
Services Director (hereinafter 'HHSD'), or her designee and in a
manner as to not affect performance of his duties with the Tribe.
Provide direct patient primary care medical on office surgical
services, diagnosis, treatment and referral when appropriate.
Obtain and interpret diagnostic tests as needed. Provide oversight
and clinical consultation and support to midlevel medical providers
within the clinical setting. Provide support and oversight of
clinical support staff team. Shall be an active participant in
continuing quality improvement processes. Participate and cooperate
as needed with the activities of the Health and Human Services
Administration and attend meetings regarding patient care
management. Admit and care for patients in the hospital setting
including hospital rounds on LEHC patients and other services that
may be required for quality of patient care. Provide hospital
outpatient services as may be required for LEHC patients. Admit and
provide ongoing care for patients in nursing homes. Direct and work
with hospice and home health care nurses. Respond to telephone
calls from OMC hospital staff, nursing home staff and others. May
be required to make house call visits to patients in their homes.
Shall keep and maintain appropriate records for all professional
services rendered by him in a timely manner. Documents all patient
encounters immediately post visit legibly on PCC form All chart
notes to be documented in Problem oriented, SOAP format, dictated
if possible Primary responsibility will be patient care with
limited administrative duties Diagnosis and treatment of acute and
chronic injuries and illness within scope of training Orders and
interprets lab and medical imaging/x-ray data appropriately within
scope of training Initiates appropriate referrals to other health
care professionals when appropriate Adheres to CHS/managed care
guidelines and priorities Attend clinic staff meetings and health
department meetings as assigned Perform all clinic activities
within CLIA and OHSA standards with appropriate education and
monitoring of other staff personnel as appropriate Promotion of and
participation in quality assurance activities Adhere to all
approved policies and procedures of the clinic and the tribal
organization Participate in policy development, committees and
projects as assigned by the Medical Director Work in coordinated
manner with other providers of the clinic and the health department
to provide comprehensive quality care to all patients REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONS: Current WA State medical licensure Current ACLS and
BLS certification Knowledge and competence in family medicine,
minor orthopedics and minor surgical procedures Ability to work
successfully with other health care professionals, patients and
community Demonstrated ability to be a team player Knowledge of
cultural sensitivity issues and ability to work with entire patient
population Ability to handle conflict and crisis in a professional
manner Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
Professional manner and appearance in all work activities
Documentation of maintenance of CME requirements OTHER DESIRED
QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working within a Native American or
Tribal health care system Working knowledge of cultural sensitivity
issues involved in tribal health care Familiarity with RPMS data
systems Ability to work flexible hours and provide cross-overage
for other providers if needed
